Kristen Jackson Character Interview

Chase Walker is beginning to doubt his own sanity. From the moment he turned eighteen, a strange paranoia has taken over his mind. It all started the moment he discovered his uncle’s old watch...

The watch calls to him. Though it beckons, he resists. His body strains toward it, blood pulsing, heart pounding in a mysterious and primitive need to connect with his uncle’s old beat up watch.

When sexy and mysterious Alyx saves his life, she promises answers. She talks of dimension travel, and wears a magical watch of her own…

Excerpt:

"The watches are powered by your blood, and if you couple with your watch, you will not be able to remove it from your wrist until your year of jumping ends. It will become a part of you. Look closely at the hands of my watch.” Alyx held out her arm.

Chase looked down. “What am I looking for?” He continued to stare at it, and when he looked more closely, he noticed there was movement within the blood-red hands of her watch. “Why is it moving?”

“My blood flows through the watch. We are one, this watch and I. As blood is pumped through my body, it is also pumped through the watch. The same will be true of you and your watch. Each watch contains the blood of every ancestor that has worn it."

Interviewer: Welcome to Ink & Magick. I'm your friendly neighborhood witch. What kind of spell can I get for you today?

Alyx: I’d like a locator spell—as soon as possible, please. We need to know the whereabouts of the hunters ASAP.

Interviewer: I’ll see what I can do. While we’re waiting, please introduce yourself and tell us a little bit about you.

Alyx: Um, okay. I’m Alyx. I’m a watch keeper from Dimension 4.

Interviewer: Nice to meet you Alyx. Can you explain to those of us who don’t know what a watch keeper is?

Alyx: I guess. I wear a watch that allows me to travel to other dimensions.

Interviewer: Wow! That sounds like fun! Tell us more about these dimensions.

Alyx: Fun? If you call jumping to a new world that comes with excruciating pain, gurarded ancient secrets, and being hunted by people who covet my watch fun—then sure. I guess it’s fun.

Interviewer: When did you know you were a keeper?

Alyx: I’ve known since the day I was born. Only people born on certain dates have the ability to jump to parallel worlds. My birthday just happens to fall on the right date. My family has trained me for my year of jumping since I could walk. It’s always been my destiny.

Interviewer: Trained? In what way?

Alyx: I’m trained in self-defense, martial arts, and various forms of weaponry.

Interviewer: Wow, impressive. Along with your extensive training, are there any other advantages of being a keeper?

Alyx: Um. Well, the watch is connected to me. I mean, like, literally. The watch is powered by my blood, which means I won’t be able to take if off until the end of my eighteenth year, when my year of jumping ends. Because of this link, my heart beats in time with the clock. Basically, that means I have an extremely high stamina-level. I don’t tire like normal people because my heart rate never increases. I could run all day and never feel fatigued.

Interviewer: Is being a keeper a lonely job?

Alyx: Actually, no. Chase—Chase Walker—is a keeper, too, and we travel together. His birthday is June 6. I haven’t had a chance to be lonely since he joined me. He keeps things…interesting.

Interviewer: Great! Tell me more about this Chase. He sounds fascinating. Is there a love story here?

Alyx: Um. A love story? Uh—no. I mean, we’re from different dimensions, so it would be dumb to get involved, right? We’re just friends.

Interviewer: Oh, come on. You’re blushing. I think there’s a little more to the story than you’re letting on. Tell us, what does he look like?

Alyx: He’s tall and lean but muscular, you know? And his blue eyes sparkle when he laughs. He loves the beach, like, more than anything else. That’s why his blond hair is streaked with natural highlights. And he loves to tell jokes that are only sometimes funny, but you laugh because he’s laughing, you know? Oh, and he makes friends very easily. He says he loves me, but he’s dated lots of girls, so I know he doesn’t really mean it.

Interviewer: Uh-huh. It’s a good thing you’re 'just friends’ then, right? Okay, I can see this topic makes you jumpy. Ha—jumpy! Get it! Jumping dimensions. See that play on words? No? Okay, we’ll move on. You mentioned people hunting the watches. Can you tell me about them? Who are they?

Alyx: They’re called the hunters. When the watches were invented, there were twelve watches, one for each dimensional plane. The hunters have coveted the watches since the beginning. One by one through the years, they’ve captured, killed and destroyed the keepers and their watches. Now, there are only three remaining. Mine. Chase’s, and a third that remains hidden. One of our goals during our travels is to find and protect the last keeper and the watch.

Interviewer: One last question, if you please. I’m curious. Which dimension is this? I think I’d like to know what parallel world I live in.

Alyx: Dimension 8. We’re finding out that this is a world of secrets. Things aren’t always what they seem here. Oh, and unless you’re a keeper, your other self exists in all twelve dimensions...though we’re finding out that other selves can be completely different from one world to the next. Only keepers exist in only one world. I’m sorry, that’s all I can say. I have to go. I may have said too much already, and Chase is waiting for me.

Interviewer: Well, Alyx, thanks for being here today. It has been fascinating to learn about eleven other worlds that I’ve never known existed. Next time you’re visiting dimension 8, be sure to stop by. Good luck on your travels.

About

    D. Lieber has a wanderlust that would make a butterfly envious. When she isn’t planning her next physical adventure, she’s recklessly jumping from one fictional world to another. Her love of reading led her to earn a Bachelor’s in English from Wright State University.

Beyond her skeptic and slightly pessimistic mind, Lieber wants to believe. She has been many places—from Canada to England, France to Italy, Germany to Russia—believing that a better world comes from putting a face on “other.” She is a romantic idealist at heart, always fighting to keep her feet on the ground and her head in the clouds.
