the Canadian "Eh"

In a special (and lazy?) edition of the Vade Mecum, I want to share with you an interesting article I read during my research.

I try to be thorough in my choice of language in regards to settings. While I was researching Canadian slang, I came across this beauty: Why do Canadians say 'Eh'?

I have always been interested in this fun little Canadian add-on, so I've paid close attention to when Canadians actually use it (as opposed to just assuming they tack it on all willy-nilly). And I'm gratified to know that some of my conclusions were correct. BUT! This article goes way more in depth and explains it better than I ever could. And I'm happy to say I learned some things from it, too.

Enjoy!

I finished the last two cookies for my book launch bake sale fundraiser. You want some of these brownie bites or peanut butter jam...

About

    D. Lieber has a wanderlust that would make a butterfly envious. When she isn’t planning her next physical adventure, she’s recklessly jumping from one fictional world to another. Her love of reading led her to earn a Bachelor’s in English from Wright State University.

Beyond her skeptic and slightly pessimistic mind, Lieber wants to believe. She has been many places—from Canada to England, France to Italy, Germany to Russia—believing that a better world comes from putting a face on “other.” She is a romantic idealist at heart, always fighting to keep her feet on the ground and her head in the clouds.

Lieber lives in Wisconsin with her husband (John) and cats (Yin and Nox).

It's tough keeping track of everything that's going on.
